An Award Giving Ceremony was held today 20th May 2016 to celebrate academic excellence of students who performed extremely well in the 2011/2012 and2012/2013 academic years. The event was held at Taifa Hall.
Speaking during this auspicious occasion, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Peter Mbithi congratulated the recipients and said “we are here to award the best. This event is second to our graduation ceremonies”. The VC also noted that the event provides a rare opportunity for the university to meet with parents and sponsors. He congratulated the prize recipients saying “I want to share in your pride. You have put the effort and the discipline to be recognized”.
The VC also noted that the female students had done exemplary in areas termed as ‘male dominated field’. He encouraged the current students to continue being competitive. To the donors, he asked them to continue giving prizes to UON and urged more donors to come on board.
Senator Dr. Agnes Zani who spoke on behalf of all the other donors said there was need to give more awards to show that they appreciate hard work she said “the amount of work you put is worthy of recognition. We appreciate the hours of study and support you gave. You are our representatives when you are outside there”.
Professor Henry Mutoro Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs, congratulated the recipients of the prizes and he also thanked everyone for putting aside their activities to come and celebrate this occasion. He thanked the donors for putting aside their money and time. The DVC encouraged the rest of the students to work hard because in the end hard work pays.
A total number of 489 students were awarded prizes from 82 donors. The prizes were in form of money and trophies.
