It is a new era for the University of Nairobi. Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peter M. F. Mbithi takes over as the seventh Vice-Chancellor, after the ten year tenure of Prof. George Magoha, who was the sixth Vice-Chancellor.

The handing over was done yesterday in a ceremony attended by the University of Nairobi Chairman of Council, Dr. Idle Farah and Chair of the University Alumni Association, Dr. Betty Gikonyo in the Vice-Chancellors Boardroom.

The orientation of new students joining the University is done in order to, inter alia:-

  1. Acquaint the students with the University policies and procedures.
  2. Help the students adjust to the new life at the University
  3. Introduce the students to Senior Officials of the University
  4. Familiarize the students with the facilities and amenities available in the University, which include but not limited to:-
    1. Academic facilities such as; Libraries, Lecture Theatres, Laboratories, Bookstore etc.
    2. Welfare facilities such as medical, counseling, accommodation, catering and games
    3. Social activities, clubs and societies
