22 University of Nairobi students are among 60 Kenyan students that are going to France as the first cohort through a program under the MoU that was signed between the government of Kenya and France to enhance mobility.

This was revealed in a flagging off ceremony by the UoN Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Mbeche on Wednesday September 18, 2019.  

Prof. Mbeche congratulated the students for taking advantage of the opportunity. He urged the students to go out there and be great ambassadors of the University of Nairobi and the country.

“This opportunity will expose you, open up and learn from the diverse cultures that you will interact with; use every chance you have to enhance your skills“

He noted that the UoN has spearheaded the move to implement what was agreed upon during President Macron’s visit to Kenya.

The students will be French language assistants attached to french government schools for 7 months, renewable for another 7 months to teach English.

Meanwhile the UoN will receive 2 French language assistants in October 2020 to teach French in the department of French.

Dr. Mwenesi, Chair, Department of French appreciated the gesture and the move by the Vice Chancellor to offer words of wisdom and support to the students.

“Remain focused and maintain professionalism, “she advised.

Mr. Johnson Kinyua, Director, Office of the Career Services also advised the students to be great brand ambassadors to allow the program to serve other students and even justify its renewal.

Students representatives, Hector and Naomi also spoke and pledged to deliver their mandate while in France and that they would come back equipped with knowledge and experience.
