The University of Nairobi is launching a new Master of Arts in Women, Children and Nature Rights in Environmental Governance (WCNREG), which commences in August 2023. The WCNREG is a multidisciplinary course which seeks to promote sustainable development in the Eastern and Southern African region by addressing the triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution. This programme, funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD), is regional in scope and brings together the University of Nairobi, the Southern and Eastern African Regional Centre for Women’s Law (SEARCWL) - University of Zimbabwe, the University of Malawi, and the University of Oslo. The programme takes an inclusive, engendered and decolonising approach to environmental governance, which recognises the rights of women, children and nature.
The WCNREG Programme is offering 35 scholarships (15 for Kenyans, 10 for Malawians, and 10 for Zimbabweans) to cover the full tuition fees for the entire duration of the course. The scholarship targets all critical actors working in the intersecting areas of natural resource and climate change law and women's, children's, nature's rights and environmental governance; those working in government national institutions and local government agencies; non-governmental organizations inclusive of community-based organizations, civil society organizations, grassroots organizations and even international NGOs working in these areas.
