The Department of Public Health, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Nairobi in collaboration with The Ohio State University, USA, and Kenya Medical Research Institute, is inviting applications for:

TWO-YEAR MASTER OF SCIENCE IN ONE HEALTH AND EMERGENCY RESEARCH ETHICS (MOHERE) (REGULAR PROGRAMME)
2025/2026 ACADEMIC YEAR

PROGRAMME TITLE: Master of Science in One Health and Emergency Research Ethics

LEVEL OF PROGRAMME: Graduate Level (MSc)

AIM OF THE MSc IN ONE HEALTH AND EMERGENCY RESEARCH ETHICS PROGRAMME

The programme aims to produce high calibre individuals who ensure ethical planning, conduct, review, and regulation of One Health and Emergency research in addition to provision of consultancy services in ethical implementation of public health interventions at the human, animal and environmental interface.

EMPLOYMENT PROSPECTS

Upon completion, graduates may be employed as One Health and Emergency research ethics leaders. Graduates may provide technical support to the many, and growing, Research Ethics Committees in Kenya, East Africa and beyond. Graduates may be employed in: Universities; Research Institutions; Regulatory bodies; NGOs; National and County Governments; Hospitals; and Clinical trial sites.

ADMISSION IS OPEN TO:

Individuals in educational and research institutions, government ministries, departments, and agencies, private institutions, health institutions, as well as local Non-governmental Organizations, and international agencies.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must possess one of these three possibilities:
1). A first degree in Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing sciences, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine or related Medical Sciences; OR a first degree (a minimum of Upper Second-Class Honors) in any of the following areas of study: Basic and Applied Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities, Environmental Health, Biological and Biomedical Sciences, Public Health, or Law; OR
2). Have a Lower Second Class Honors in the disciplines listed in 1). or other relevant fields, along with either a minimum of two years of relevant work experience post degree, a professional qualification, or a Postgraduate Diploma in a relevant area; OR
3). Have a Pass degree in the disciplines listed in 1). or other relevant fields, along with either at least three years of relevant post degree experience or a Postgraduate Diploma in a relevant area.

SCHOLARSHIPS

In order to be considered for scholarship award, application for admission to the program must first be submitted to the University of Nairobi. A limited number of competitive Scholarships are available to support tuition fees, research costs, and participation in the Annual MOHERE workshop.
