Amb. Simon Nabukwesi has directed all Vice-Chancellors and Principals of universities to come up with re-opening plans for their institutions. In the plan, Amb. Nabukwesi requests them to ensure that provision of minimum requirements for the prevention of Covid-19 transmissions is provided for all the campuses.

Amb Nabukwesi is the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Education in the State Department for University Education and Research. In a letter to all Vice Chancellors dated 17th June 2020 with the subject ‘RE-OPENING OF UNIVERSITIES AFTER COVID-19 PANDEMIC,’ he gives a list of minimum requirements as water/soap, sanitizers, disinfectants for frequently touched objects like doorknobs/rails, adequate space for social distancing, masks/face shields, and thermo-guns for monitoring temperature. He hinted that universities may be opened in the month of September 2020 when it is expected that fewer cases of Covid-19 will be reported in the country.
