Three members of staff from the University of Nairobi were among 68 inaugural recipients of Presidential Order of Service, Uzalendo Awards, where individuals were recognized for their distinguished and outstanding service to the nation. The three are Prof. Omu Anzala, Dr. Marybeth Maritim and Dr. Loice Achieng Ombajo who were honoured for helping steer the country through the Corona Virus pandemic. President Uhuru Kenyatta conferred them the Uzalendo Awards during Madaraka Day celebrations at Statehouse, Nairobi.
Uzalendo Awards were established by the President to recognize and honour those Kenyans who have exhibited exemplary service, sacrifice, patriotism, heroism and high sense of civic duty in helping steer Kenya through the Covid-19 pandemic. The first recipients of the Uzalendo Awards (journalists, healthcare workers & donors) were gazetted on Monday June 01, 2020.
