Relocation of UONAA offices to Kolobot Drive off Statehouse Road

Mr. Keneth Sawe, the Executive Director UoN Alumni Association (UONAA) wishes to notify all staff, students and alumni of the University of Nairobi that UONAA relocated from its former offices at UoN Kenya Science Campus, Ngong Road effective 1st July 2020. The new offices are now located on Kolobot Drive, off State House Rd next to UNES Headquarters.

Call for manuscripts - Kenya Policy Briefs journal

Prof. Madara Ogot is inviting faculty members to submit manuscripts for the Kenya Policy Briefs journal for the editions of September 2020 and January 2021. The Kenya Policy Briefs journal is published three times a year (January, May & September) by the University of Nairobi and is available both online and in hard copy. An estimated 800 copies of each issue are printed and circulated to all Kenya legislators, Cabinet Secretaries, Chief Administrative Secretaries, and Principal Secretaries in all Ministries as well as Chairs and CEOs of all parastatals. The journal, therefore, provides a suitable platform for researchers worldwide carrying out research impacting on policy-formulation in Kenya to directly publicize their research findings and policy recommendations to the right audience.

Ministry of Health launches Home-based Isolation & Care protocols for the COVID-19 patients

The Ministry of Health launched Home-based Isolation and Care protocols for the COVID-19 patients on 10th June 2020. Kenya, therefore, leads the region as it is the only country implementing this program as one of the case management strategies to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. The protocols have been developed in line with the World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines. The guidelines have been developed taking into consideration the local socio-economic situation and they have been translated to Kiswahili and counties have been called to translate them to local languages.

Prof. Attiya Waris launches a new book 'Financing Africa'

Professor Attiya Waris launched a new book titled Financing Africa on 19th June 2020. In the book, Prof. Waris has used examples from all 54 countries of Africa making fiscal matters real and understandable for people, no matter their field. It demonstrates the importance of fiscal law and policy for development and the impact it has on individuals, communities, nations, regional groupings, and the continent.

Successful ending to Online Examination Support Training

Professor Julius Ogeng'o has called on all teaching units at the University of Nairobi to work closely now with the Director ICT and the college ICT officers to close any skills gaps that may emerge during the conduct of online examinations. In his communique to all staff and students he announced that the Online Examination Support Training that started on 11th June 2020 has been completed successfully pointing out that any additional training from now onwards will be done on a need-to-need basis.

Capacity building grants - Invitation for applications

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Research, Innovation and Enterprise (RIE) Professor Madara Ogot invites applications for capacity building grants from permanent academic members of staff at the University of Nairobi for the ARUA Center of Excellence for Non-Communicable Diseases (ACE-NCD). The mini-grant is in support of scoping studies and pilot studies that lead to strengthening research collaboration among researchers in ACE NCD Universities: Makerere University, University of Ghana, University of Ibadan, University of Nairobi, and University of the Witwatersrand.

HELB invites applications for 2020/2021 Undergraduate Loans

The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has opened the mobile phone system for the Undergraduate 2020/2021 Loan Applications. Call for Submission of Annual Procurement Plans 2020/2021

Mrs. Mary Mumbi Kariuki is calling on all Heads of Departments and Directors at the University of Nairobi to submit their Procurement Plans for the Financial Year 2020/2021. The deadline for submission of the Procurement Plans 2020/2021 was on 12th June 2020. In her communication to all heads of departments, Mrs. Kariuki states that the preparation of procurement plans is a statutory requirement and must be in place before the commencement of a financial year.

University Education PS Simon Nabukwesi hints at re-opening of universities in September 2020

Amb. Simon Nabukwesi has directed all Vice-Chancellors and Principals of universities to come up with re-opening plans for their institutions. In the plan, Amb. Nabukwesi requests them to ensure that provision of minimum requirements for the prevention of Covid-19 transmissions is provided for all the campuses. Amb Nabukwesi is the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Education in the State Department for University Education and Research.

Notice to students on Password Reset Tool in the SMIS - Director of ICT

The University of Nairobi Director of ICT Mr. Paul Kariuki wishes to notify all students that the Students Management Information System, SMIS Students’ portal now supports password reset for students who might have forgotten their passwords. In his communiqué through email on 16th June 2020 he states that if a student cannot remember their password, all they need to do is click on "Forgot your password?" link and then follow the instructions given.
