Chinese Ambassador’s Scholarships – Call for applications

The Dean of Students Office invites applications for the Chinese Ambassador’s Scholarships 2020/2021. The applicants must be University of Nairobi registered needy students with an excellent academic record and not have benefitted from any other scholarship in the previous and current academic year. The application form must be accompanied by scanned copies of the national and university identity cards and academic transcripts.

Recruitment of graduate interns by the Public Service Commission

The Public Service Commission (PSC) has announced the recruitment of six thousand (6,000) interns scheduled to take place in the month of August 2020. For an appointment to this position, a candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline of not earlier than 2015. The duration of the internship is twelve months with a paid stipend determined by the PSC.

KUCCPS opens Inter-University Transfer Applications for KCSE 2019 Candidates

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has opened the online application system for inter-university transfer applications. The application is open for KCSE 2019 candidates who have been successfully placed in various universities but wish to transfer to other institutions. The portal for inter-institution application will close on August 15, 2020, at 4:00 pm. Students are requested to acquaint themselves with the requirements before commencing the application for the transfer process by logging into the KUCCPS Student's Portal.

Prof. Kiama chairs the ESA Regional Committee for the Association of Commonwealth Universities

The University of Nairobi Vice-Chancellor Professor Stephen Kiama on 11th June 2020 chaired the East and Southern African (ESA) Regional Committee. The newly formed ESA Committee is a regional committee for the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) whose headquarters are in London, United Kingdom. The ACU has over 500 member universities in 50 countries across the Commonwealth with network coverage of over 10 million students and more than 1 million academic and professional staff. The main objective of ACU is to strengthen regional and international collaboration across the Commonwealth universities.

Dr. Joseph Wanjeri spells out online etiquette for meetings

Dr. Joseph Kimani Wanjeri is appealing for staff and students to exercise online etiquette during meetings in the wake of the Covid-19. He says online etiquette is correct or acceptable conduct while interacting or communicating online and that appropriate online etiquette should be observed depending on the type of interaction the type of forum or as spelled out by the group, company, or institution involved. He has further elucidated that prior planning is required before joining formal online forums and microphone and video camera should be switched off immediately after joining in order to avoid embarrassing moments.

Notice on closure of Staff Performance Appraisal 2019-2020

The Administration Registrar Mr. Peter Muturi wishes to notify all staff that the closure of the Staff Performance Appraisal for the period 2019-2020 will be on 30th June 2020. In his communiqué to all teaching and non-teaching staff, he reminded them that it is mandatory for all staff on active duty to complete their performance appraisal. He however stated that staff on leave of absence, sabbatical leave, suspension, or medical leave are exempted from this exercise.

Preparations for the 3rd Annual Research Week 2020 ongoing – Prof. Madara Ogot

Professor Madara Ogot has announced that preparations for the 3rd Annual Research Week 2020 are now in full swing, featuring 13 conferences covering nearly all disciplines in the University. Research Week 2020 is the 3rd Annual event that will be hosted by the University of Nairobi on October 12-16, 2020.  The conferences provide a forum to enable researchers to present their work, engage with their colleagues, and learn about the latest developments in their field. 

Prof. Jeremiah Kalai urges the Government to re-think its financing of higher education

Review fiscal & education policies due to socio-economic effects on children ~ Dr. Andrew Riechi

Dr. Andrew Rasugu Otachi Riechi calls for an urgent review of fiscal and education policies so as to address the socio-economic dimensions affecting the lives of children in a myriad of ways during the Covid-19 pandemic. He states that‘’ Due to prolonged confinement, children are being separated from their peers and teachers and deprived of socializing activities, including sports. National and state/county governments should consider mobilizing resources from development partners and international agencies to put up the necessary infrastructures for digital learning management systems, going forward.’’ Dr. Riechi wrote in his article that was published on the website https://eap.uonbi.ac.ke/ of the Department of Educational Administration & Planning, University Of Nairobi.

Scholarship opportunity for PhD students with disabilities

PENDA Consortium invites applications for full-time scholarship for one researcher with disabilities to conduct research to improve the evidence surrounding Disability Inclusive Development. The PhD will be based at the University of Nairobi's School of Public Health with additional support and supervision from the International Centre for Evidence in Disability at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM).
