Call for applications - World Bank Group Africa Fellowship Program

The Africa Region of the World Bank Group (WBG) has announced the opening of the application for the 2021 WBG-Africa Fellowship Program for PhD. candidates and recent Ph.D. graduates who are Sub-Saharan Africa nationals. Women are encouraged to apply. The deadline for applications is August 23, 2020. The World Bank Group (WBG) Africa Fellowship Program targets young, talented African nationals who are completing, or have recently completed their Ph.D. in an area relevant to the World Bank’s work. The program offers chosen fellows a six-month assignment at World Bank Group (WBG) offices in Washington D.C. or in country offices to gain hands-on experience in the operations of the WBG.

Education CS announces that phased reopening of universities will start in September

Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha has announced that phased reopening of universities will start in September 2020 under strict guidelines, ending a four-month closure occasioned by the coronavirus pandemic. The CS however directed that reopening of universities for face-to-face sessions will be on a case-by-case basis based on approved compliance with Ministry of Health Covid-19 protocols. Prof. Magoha added that universities should continue conducting online teaching and graduations.

VC sets up Senate Committee to review cases of students expelled from the University

The University of Nairobi Vice-Chancellor Prof. Stephen Kiama announced that he has asked the Senate to review cases of all the suspended students with a view of readmitting them. In his briefing held on 26th June 2020 the VC said that the University must exercise its Core Value of Care and that there was need to give the expelled students a second chance to complete their studies and graduate.

Relocation of UONAA offices to Kolobot Drive off Statehouse Road

Mr. Keneth Sawe, the Executive Director UoN Alumni Association (UONAA) wishes to notify all staff, students and alumni of the University of Nairobi that UONAA relocated from its former offices at UoN Kenya Science Campus, Ngong Road effective 1st July 2020. The new offices are now located on Kolobot Drive, off State House Rd next to UNES Headquarters.

Call for manuscripts - Kenya Policy Briefs journal

Prof. Madara Ogot is inviting faculty members to submit manuscripts for the Kenya Policy Briefs journal for the editions of September 2020 and January 2021. The Kenya Policy Briefs journal is published three times a year (January, May & September) by the University of Nairobi and is available both online and in hard copy. An estimated 800 copies of each issue are printed and circulated to all Kenya legislators, Cabinet Secretaries, Chief Administrative Secretaries, and Principal Secretaries in all Ministries as well as Chairs and CEOs of all parastatals. The journal, therefore, provides a suitable platform for researchers worldwide carrying out research impacting on policy-formulation in Kenya to directly publicize their research findings and policy recommendations to the right audience.

Ministry of Health launches Home-based Isolation & Care protocols for the COVID-19 patients

The Ministry of Health launched Home-based Isolation and Care protocols for the COVID-19 patients on 10th June 2020. Kenya, therefore, leads the region as it is the only country implementing this program as one of the case management strategies to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. The protocols have been developed in line with the World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines. The guidelines have been developed taking into consideration the local socio-economic situation and they have been translated to Kiswahili and counties have been called to translate them to local languages.
