University of Nairobi Announces “Big 5” Major New Projects

The University of Nairobi unveiled 5 major new projects to transform the university, called the “Big 5” initiatives (#UoNBig5), during the Chancellor’s Partnership Forum.

Professor Patrick V. Verkooijen, Chancellor of the University of Nairobi, emphasized the transformative potential of the “Big 5” during their unveiling:

1. UoN Innovation Park: Establishing Nairobi as the “Silicon Savannah” for entrepreneurship and technological innovation, supported by a new innovation fund.

Professor Migai Akech's inaugural lecture titled "Taming the Tyranny of the Barons: Administrative Law and the Regulation of Power" delved into a fundamental concern that has animated him since childhood: the routine and aggravating displays of power abuses that permeate our daily lives, both in private and public realms. From arbitrariness and condescension to corruption and violence, these manifestations of tyranny erode the very liberties and livelihoods we seek to protect through our societal institutions.

Inaugural Lecture by Prof. Migai Akech

Prof. Migai Akech will deliver an Inaugural Lecture titled, “Taming the Tyranny of the Barons: Administrative Law and the Regulation of Power” on Friday, April 26, 2024 at 2:00 pm at the University's Taifa Hall.

Prof. Akech is a renowned legal scholar and expert in administrative law. His lecture promises to provide invaluable insights into the role of administrative law in regulating the exercise of power by government agencies and public officials, often referred to as the "barons" of the administrative state.

Tokyo foundation for Policy Research initiated the Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund, or Sylff, in 1987 to support students pursuing graduate studies in the humanities and social sciences. Sylff is offering 1 PhD and 2 masters scholarships for the 2024/2025 academic year in the following programmes: Economics, Communication Studies, Development Studies and Sociology.

University of Nairobi Provides Mentorship to Nyandarua University College

A delegation from the University of Nairobi visited Nyandarua University College to provide mentorship and assess status of infrastructure development and preparedness as preparations for establishment of the Nyandarua University gain momentum. The University of Nairobi has given a commitment to nurture the constituent college into a fully-fledged university.
